Poem 1
lavender fields and orchards
cottages and high brow
stunted girls minds on hill
mowed down to seventies grey
blown up to bogus red
shuttered turrets of the dogmatist
still the semblance the same
with the stench of lavender
from copper cast reeks.....

Hello, Joanna I like this better than your other efforts. First thing I’ve seen on here approaching ’POETRY’. I suppose your are saying that the stench of lavender is masking a lot of sins and that there is [life is] a masquerade. Not quite sure but I think this is what your are saying. It isn’t very clear. It may be me of course, but I think you could re work this - the idea is worth some more effort.[sometimes a poem evolves over a period of days/weeks/months. Keep this one and look at it again periodically. It will evolve.] I may come back to it - this is just an immediate reaction. The juxtaposition of ‘lavender fields’ and ‘mowed down’ may be giving the wrong image. To ‘mow’ is to cut grass with a blade or machine [sometimes I have a problem with American idioms - if you are American you may have a different intention/understanding] Is this what you mean here? If it is imagery/metaphor it doesn’t fit well because ‘field’ makes it literal. And, do you mean ‘high brow girls’ with ‘stunted’ minds? Let me know if this is helpful [or stoopid!] on here or by e-mail. THERE IS A MUCH BETTER SITE FOR ANYONE REALLY INTERESTED IN POETRY. i THINK YOU HAVE THE TALENT TO GO THERE. http://criticalpoet.com they are very friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced. There are forums for beginners/medium/advanced and hard ball crit for those who can take it.
